Artist analysing of Francis Bacon Three studies for figures at the base of curcfixion

Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion

Form
This art work seems to include the formal elements of an artwork such as connection, shape, texture, colour, tone and pattern. for example As I can seem there is a lack of  use of light shading, but instead darker toning for shading, maybe to fit in within painting, in order to create an affect of depression as the painting only seems dull , gloomy and dark. only the use of dark tertiary colours that are dark red , black creating that numb atmosphere of the painting, maybe the message the artist is trying to bring across, The shape of drawings within this painting including the background  take on a eerie and weird look, especially the fugues in the painting. disfigured and dis nothing seems quite simple and straight forward , nothings easy to understand , there many interpretation towards this painting. What you may think may not be the exact answer to this particular art piece. The textures of this piece seem to be rough and hard , as well rigid surface, due to the materials used that oil and pastels, both materials  create hard bumpy surfaces when added to a canvas. It may have been difficult for the artists to apply pastels , as pastels  involve using a surfaces that have enough tooth for grip. Although paper is the best support for applying pastels, however wasn't  used as the surface for this piece probably because the eye catching look and attraction the, canvas would provide. As seen a lack of marks and  lines have been used and added ,instead blood block colours such clear blood red , no filling such as patterns maybe to maintain the sadness , and still mood and atmosphere.  From adjusting my answer just from observing this painting, I can see that the painting seems to be a  small piece, ( 74 x 94 cm).  This maybe the reason as the painting  doesn't include much drawing, one painting for each, therefore doesn't need much space.

     Context

This seems to relate to the depression and the suffering of the WWII, as this may relate due to the creation of the painting 1944, just before creation of this painting, and this was a time during the war  , therefore the painting maybe expressing the horrors and the moment of time 1944, as well as the culture, such as the  long dark clothing simple clothing of the peasants of 19 hundreds,  the simple technologies of that they and age  as suggested in this painting(the middle drawing figure is on top of some sort of device). I the painting as a whole takes in an influence of the society back then either suffering ,or depression form a love one , death ,lives lost due to war, and uses the theme of  blood overall, due to the blood red color of the backgrounds in each individual art piece, which is emphasis throughout theses three  drawings, Blood red is the main color the viewer would see.

Where almost all art paintings are made, I assume that such painting was made in  an art studio, and may have taken time to complete, in-order  to reach perfection and for the painting to be accurate, as most paintings are, or  the painting seem may seem incomplete  and an artist has always got to take time when drawing a piece. Probably painting on canvas for grip of oil and pastel materials and for a good surface strong surface.
As suggested in many information pages the name of the is artist who painting  this piece of work is, Francis Bacon who was born in 1909  Ireland , however later died in Madrid Spain. He had always painted in unpopular times such as during World war 2.

There are many art works that may relate to any type of  subject such as  to science and geography ,math etc. However subject relation of this  particular piece, I would say sole music as there is a maintained sense and feeling of depression and sorrow. Like soul music the painting keeps slow and clam atmosphere , similar to soul music as both sources suggest a similar rhyme and tale, mainly because most lyrics focused on  still ,slow movement  as well as both sources suggest freedom from society. That both arts suggest presence of momentum and high energy behavior for example the painting presents  anger, shouting, involvement  and an example of commandment ,leadership however shown in a negative and aggressive viewpoint. The painting suggest a relentless amount of continuous  behavior never to stop.

Content

Such painting seems to foretelling an unseen message, it could be presenting the  viewer, the atrocities of World war 2, due to the fact that the created time of this piece was made  during 1944, near the ending of the war, maybe done so to relate to the time of date,  and to suggest an importance of daily  advents of the society in 1944  to always be remembered within our lives of today and for the next decade, or a brief meaning towards the artist ,that advents maybe meant a lot to the artist and wanted to express it within his painting. To add sense of direction for the painting however , the artist added strange presence of the figures as drawn in the painting, that its n't  clear of what the figures are actual doing, it could be anything, as the action don't seem striantg  forward, one of the paintings seems to be expressing a motion of dreadful presence , as if something is dragging the figure back , seems uncertain, holding on for dear life, , that the figure seems small wasteful , weak to  do anything but shout. , the figure shows a sense of weakness, and  dependent. However the figure in the middle shows other as suggest even deeper sadness maybe for a love one, a downward movement , as looking down shows un lively mood and behaviour, a lost of hope , it shows level   anxiety from society , a feeling in the blues, or an an advance feeling sorrow, the painting at the  left  shows still activity or a lack of activity , a paralyse position , the figure seems to just stay in position. ,as well as middle figure a downward motion is shown as seen, a feeling of depression and  death , a  mental problem , negative thinking of life.

Process
This piece of art work was made using oil paints and pastels, these materials were added ,into the painting probably  by the use of the basic method of brush like strokes and laying oil paints over paints on  the  canvas.  As the mood and atmosphere is based upon the effects of war and the after maths of war., depression , deep sadness , sorrow and morning of dead, all examples of of emotive description are all linked with negativity, Maybe what the artist was trying to express within this painting the presence of  a high low thinking. The in-existence of the of the positive  mind, therefore simple lines of shade and technique was alone applied, because as you can see in the painting, the paints don't seem to show a particular style ,but one layer paint over canvas,  done so to maintain the main mood sadness, and for the painting to as well  connect up with drawings. The painting shows simple painting method , for example a line of paint a basic painting method. There is evidence of the use of oil paints and pastels,  as the surface seems to be hard and dry, what oil paints create when finished applied and used used the oil creates a dry and harden surface and texture,  Therefore useful but such process is very slow for quick painting, depending on type of oil. But the advantage of oil paints the artist can adjust and change his/hers painting while waiting for oil paint to dry, and the
pastels can be seen, in the dark heavy marks of the dark shading, because of the marks left around the paintings, maybe showing finger marks and the dusty , bits of of excess pastel.

Mood
The work seems to create a disturbing truth of negative emotion as shown in painting, the expressed emotions of  utter sadness, deep empathy and sorrow, the weeping of a lost one. The whole connection and link to low anxiety in life. the feeling that some may sufferer in a daily basis. The  mood of tragedy and darkness within the mind and soul. The lack of escape and imprisonment.  as shown in harden texture created form the oil paints ,show existence of a man and  continues the wave of sadness and bitterness throughout this painting. bringing down the mood and atmosphere to an in stable mentality of the mind.

 Self Portrait 1997
Form: Within this art painting, the formal elements of art can be seen, such as the style  painting which in this particular piece, oil canvas was used to create such. for the various uses of shading, tone and the colour. Also this painting tell us that Chuck used a majority of light colours than to dark colours overall, to create an effect and to show more of the face, for example to terminate the portraits skin colour, light skin. Texture of this piece seems to be rigged and irregular, due to the fact that of the used material oil canvas. The image seems to make use of the spaced, for there are lack of free space round the edge of he painting. the portrait seems to fill up the whole area.

Context:   the paintings seems to redirect ,the viewer to a sort of modern age and time, the 1997 as suggested in the title, because of the style of used in this painting, pixel like make up of the painting, suggesting Modern technologies. Also because of the bright colours applied, it seems new and up to date, than to older painting that mainly take up the dark seeming , due to the technologies systems ,  weren't as advance to the standard  modern technologies of today generation. The painting seems to be painted by Chuck close who seems base his works on close up portraits as well as other style such as  photography and photo realistic pieces. However this particular piece was probably made in the art studios of chuck close, suggest such as works are painted in such places, place were the artist would have his time to himself.

This piece seems to share some relations with the subject of IT(information technology) mainly as I see that painting is made up of many block like squares, looking like pixels, that make up an computer image, as if the painting is zoomed in right through. , up close. as if this picture has been created using the computer.  However does take the combination of science, due to the bacteria like shapes that fill each and every one of the boxes that, make up the painting.

Content: The content of this piece tells the viewer of unique piece of art, that this painting takes up the topic of art, for example it is an art portrait. Colours and artistic style gives the suggestion of an art piece. Drawn to form a portrait of art work., due to the fact of a close of face and only the face and background. The painting type seems to take the style of  photorealism and standard colour painting. as well as rough and rigid structure, the image seems uneven. Picture seems to present (in my opinion) unsettled  and an  unawareness of the sudden movements, because the motion shown on the face shows nervous, embarrassment Finally  the title creates a link with the actual image of the painting, portrayed. e.g. settlement, simple, calm and collective.

Process:From looking at this art piece I can recognize that the work was made using an oil canvas, as stated in the description of the painting information, this is an oil piece because , as seen its looks less runny ,also because an oil paint would look more vibrant and brighter than a water colour paints, more or less flatter and stuck to towards the page. However to make this painting chuck may have used the tools of paint, brushes and may have a mixing plate to mix the oil paint together, to create the effects that are  associated within this painting. and the materials used to paint on, was canvas , which is made from man-made cotton factories.

Mood: The work givesme an impression, of quick , fire rapid movement, unoticed from the eye. and undetected only form the last minute. It reminds me of slow reaction and movements and reflexs, something you can do little to stop, but watch. maybe a feeling of embressment and tention, or the feeling of worried and scard of the unknown, due to facial expression and features shown on the face of the painting. Strong bold glarying eyes staring out at you ,as if you've  caused a serious problem. The serious look on the face, squiting eyes , tight closed lips sharing slightest bit of the gums.

The colours effects only a little of my mood, as the colours are well matched and blends in with, the painting that you almost forget that there a little circles of colours. that it become one with the painting as its ment to be there. However the textures give me an oppsite iempression, that painting  can't be taken serious, it changes the serious mood of the protrait, with the bright mixed colours, within every grid of the protrait.

Rene Magritte the false mirror

Rene Magritte 'The false Mirror'
Analysing

Form: The Artist uses a wide range of colours from different colour contrast, from dark to light. for example the artists uses light blues, white , light browns, dark browns, black(not a colour apparently).
From observing this artwork i can see that the texture seems nice and hard, rough , and a lack of smooth edges, due to the fact that of oil canvas addictions of may create, oil is never smooth when applied. also in terms of colour mainly the use  of secondary colours are applied, the blue that feels the eye,is a light blue therefore may have mixtures of white added as well as blue. There are circler marks around the eye , straight edge marks can't really be seen within this art work, due to the fact that the human eye isn't straight, its round and curvaceous. However straight marks may have been added at the  narrow edges of the eye. The size takes on a oversized look, that fills up the most of the page and picture.

Context:  This of work shows the existence past century.

Mystery and Melancholy of a Street by Giorgio de Chirico

Mystery and Melancholy of a Street

Form: the sightings of the formal elements of art  can be seen in this painting, such as connection of the art piece, is very sinister and can be mainly as seen in this painting, the colours altogether connect up and are all well matched. for example the colour of the seems to take on a sort of eerie strange look as well as the further included colours, the gold road, the light yellow/white building, which is the main feature. That the artist used a variety of colours, mainly tertiary colours in my opinion. the artist probably added such colours  for emphasised to continue the wired, eerie feeling of the painting. As if the art piece is like a poem, that artist is trying to add a rhyme,  for everything is well connected in this art piece, and to connect this piece the artists tends keep the colours in an organised manner as well as ordered and matched in there colour groups. The colours added in this painting applied in an particular area of the painting, in other words the colours aren't missed placed, unlike some surrealist art work that include strange pattens and figures it introduce weird and dream like atmosphere.

The painting introduces straight edge and curved shapes, for simple features for the corners of the buildings , the  shadows and to create the basic shape of the buildings even. Straight square curved shapes were probably added for the painting to seem realistic and still life,  however to change the way we see things and to add a twist to the every life. The surface of painting seems hard, though and rough, due to the fact of the material used to paint this piece oil canvas, because when applied the  oil creates a dry surface, unlike water colour which is flat when applied. judging  from the painting , this art work seems to be sized A1, for there isn't much detail painted within the painting. therefore there is not much to show, meaning a small sized canvas would be used.

Context: The work seems to relate to past decade of the 19 hundreds, although there are some features of this painting that date past this century, making the viewer to suggest a different date and age of time from the actual data of the creation'1914'. As i can tell the some of the figurers in this painting relate to the classical past, something which Giorgio  has , always included in this art works as well as interested in this specific period of time. As been identified this art piece was made by Giorgio de Chirico who was middle aged man when, during when he painted this painting. This work wasn't  always related to the time of the  Giorgio, as suggested above Giorgio had always had an interest of the classical past, however tried to include the both to created a sense of sorrow and sadness, because the connection of the both created a mysterious sighting towards the viewer. The work seems to take a influence in the sort of horror tragedy films of today, due to the dark gloomy look of the painting, which is associated with horror films as horror films tend to the same, for example  scenes are mainly based in a dark setting etc. As well the film relation another relation towards education section, which is the educational subject of music, in terms of classical music, as painting seems ongoing and contentious like music, especially like  classical music, a lack of emotion and movement, something that seems unenthusiastic  similar to  classical music.(In my opinion i think classical music is dull , however some are really good to listen too such as 'adagio for strings').
